Sunil Verma, SVP, Global Head, Oncology Franchise at AstraZeneca, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“25 years at American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in a row!
I start each one the same way: with a run by the lake. It has become a ritual, a quiet moment of gratitude for what we’ve achieved against cancer, and of resolve and commitment for the work still ahead.
There’s something energizing about the days leading into ASCO 2026. For months, and often years, researchers, clinicians, trial teams, and patients have been contributing to the advances being made in oncology. This week, in Chicago, those efforts are finally shared and discussed in front of peers and the broader Oncology community.
What I’ve always valued most about the ASCO Annual Meeting is the reminder that science is never static. Every dataset sparks new hope. You learn from every study, positive and negative. You learn from every patient-because behind each point on the KM curve, each response rate, each row in a safety table, there is a person.
Every conversation about studies ongoing and planned opens new possibilities. And every advance reflects the commitment of all of us who have dedicated our lives to improving outcomes for patients facing cancer.
This year, AstraZeneca will share data across a broad range of tumour types and scientific platforms that continue to reshape how we approach cancer treatment. These presentations underscore the strength and depth of our oncology pipeline. But beyond the science, ASCO remains one of the few moments each year when the oncology community comes together at scale, with a shared determination to keep pushing the field forward.
The community making this progress happen is extraordinary, and I know our mission is shared.
After 25 years, that’s what still brings me back to the lake each morning-and what has me looking forward to reconnecting with colleagues and collaborators from around the world in Chicago this week.
Here’s to the next 25….”
