Steve Pollard: Turning Cancer Against Itself Through Programmable Genetic Medicines

Steve Pollard, Co-Director, Cancer Research UK Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence at Cancer Research UK (CRUK), Founder and Chief Scientific Officer at Trogenix, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Excited to share my latest piece in Molecular Therapy Family of Journals which delves into the story behind our recent paper in Nature and what it means for the future of cancer gene therapy. Centred around the notion of ‘turning cancer against itself’ we explore how our Synthetic Super-Enhancers (SSEs) harness the unique identity of cancer cells to direct tumour killing with synchronised immune activation, creating what is effectively an in-situ vaccine.

We are at a point where programmable genetic medicines could be a genuine step-change not just for glioblastoma, but for solid tumours more widely. Trogenix is at the forefront of this goal having recently dosed the first patients in the Phase I/II ADePT trial taking place across the UK and US.

Enormous thanks to the talented scientists from my lab at the The University of Edinburgh and expert collaborators who have contributed to this research, and to the team at Trogenix for advancing these findings to achieve real-world impact for the patients facing unmet clinical needs.”
