Steffi Davies, Programme Manager at Steel City Sports CIC, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“At the end of May I took part in the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run to raise money for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) – I am proud to say I finished in my goal time of under two hours and raised £300!
A half marathon was a challenge outside of my comfort zone given I wasn’t a regular runner and had never ran by myself before starting training in January. My motivation came from the past few years, and especially recent months, showing me the pain and heartbreak cancer causes to those fighting it and their loved ones. On the other side, it has given me hope that, with continued work from organisations like Cancer Research UK, more people will have access to existing and new treatments to prolong and hopefully save lives to allow time to make precious memories.
I enjoyed the challenge and am already tempted to do another! A massive thank you to everyone who donated and the best support crew who came along to cheer me on in their yellow, green and blue – the favourite colours of those close to me who we’ve lost to or are currently battling this cruel disease.”
