Stacey Tinianov: Building Equity Through Allyship at ACE Meeting

Stacey Tinianov, Executive Director at Advocates for Collaborative Education, and VP Patient Advocacy and Engagement at Rabble Health, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“A last minute agenda shift allowed for an impromptu conversation on diversity, equity, and allyship in last week’s Advocates for Collaborative Education meeting!

It is a misnomer to believe that you must be a member of a community to advocate for that community.

Allyship is fundamentally about advocating for groups and voices that don’t already have a seat at the table and a microphone in their hand.

And yet it is super important to know that advocating on behalf of others is NOT the end goal – it is only the beginning with the ultimate goal of making sure those voices are brought into the room, to the table, given a chair and a microphone.

  • It is about listening and learning to a community’s needs so that you can use your voice to elevate .
  • It’s about showing up in a consistent manner.
  • It’s about acknowledging you may not get it right the first time and integrating constructive feedback moving forward.
  • It’s about helping open doors and then stepping aside to let others walk through.

Many thanks to our members who candidly shared their experiences in driving equity as an ally and as an accomplice!.”
