Stacey Tinianov, Executive Director at Advocates for Collaborative Education, and VP Patient Advocacy and Engagement at Rabble Health, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Attending my first American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting and honestly quite impressed after the first official day. While patient advocacy representation is sorely lacking in attendance, all presenters have kept patient health, safety, and preference at the forefront of the conversation.
A profound moment in this morning’s Opening Session when ASTRO president Dr. Sameer Keole suggested the clinical and research audience move to using the term “non-malignant” versus “benign” going on to name a handful of painful health conditions that may benefit from radiotherapy following with, “There is nothing BENIGN about that!”
Still plenty of work to do in this group encouraging the use of “right-sizing” as opposed to the often confusing and disconcerting “de-escalation” terminology.”
