Stacey Tinianov: Fabulous Insights on Building an Advocate-Centric Research Lab

Stacey Tinianov, Executive Director at Advocates for Collaborative Education, and VP Patient Advocacy and Engagement at Rabble Health, shared a post on LinkedIn by Advocates for Collaborative Education, adding:

“Fabulous insights and guidance from this amazing team of advocates on how to build an advocate-centric research lab. Key items included:

  • Default to connecting early and often (NOT 24 hours before a LOS is due)
  • Set the lab standard for lay summaries on all research posters/publications
  • Establish consistent two-way learning opportunities
  • Interactions outside the lab can help generate deeper connections

In a nutshell, the team gave suggestions that promote true integration of advocates as opposed to transactional and as-needed engagement. And, while Dr. Michelle Williams’ UPMC lab is focused on liver metastases in breast cancer, the tenets are consistent across all types of research.

Looking forward to sharing with the entirety of the Advocates for Collaborative Education membership and gathering other important insights to share even more broadly.”

Quoting Advocates for Collaborative Education’s post:

“Thank you to all who were able to join this morning’s ‘How to Build an Advocate-Centric Research Lab’ webinar. Kudos to the participants who provided Dr. UPMC’s Dr. Michelle Williams with guidance and advice on how to meaningfully integrate patient and research advocate voices into her new(ish) lab. Session highlights will be shared with the Advocates for Collaborative Education membership in the coming days.”
