St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital shared a post on LinkedIn:
“For Katelyn Daniels, MD, caring for patients and advancing research have become inseparable goals, shaped through her training at St. Jude. During residency and fellowship she grew as both a clinician and researcher.
Daniels combined broad clinical experience across hematology, leukemia, solid tumors and transplantation with early research alongside Hiroto Inaba, MD, PhD, focused on outcomes for patients with specific B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia subtypes. After completing the St. Jude Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program, she now continues that journey as a physician scientist instructor in the Department of Oncology’s Leukemia/Lymphoma Division and the Department of Pathology.
‘Research became both a way to process those moments and a way forward, an opportunity to step back, to learn and to be a part of something that can make outcomes a little bit better,’ Daniels said.
Building on that foundation, Daniels joined the lab of Jeffery Klco, MD, PhD, Department of Pathology. There, she studied relapsed and refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and explored strategies to improve responses to XPO1 inhibition. She also developed a translational research project exploring ways to enhance the effectiveness of these therapies in pediatric AML.
‘She has not only learned but mastered many routine and complex techniques, including CRISPR gene editing, PDX modeling, drug screening and tissue culture,’ Klco said.
As an instructor on the St. Jude faculty, Daniels will continue integrating clinical care and research as she develops the next phase of her career. The role allows her to serve as an attending physician treating leukemia patients while dedicating protected time to translational AML research. This next phase of her career builds on the clinical experiences, scientific training and mentorship that have shaped her journey at St. Jude.”
