Sophie Blake: 3 Years, 7 Months, and the Miracle of NEAD

Sophie Blake, People and Culture Lead at Saragoosa, shared a post on X:

“The scan results are in and I’m overwhelmed with relief! Three years and seven months after starting treatment for Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer found in my liver, lungs, pelvic bone, abdominal lymph node and even on my skin…. I’m still NEAD (No Evidence of Active Disease). I reached NEAD within nine months of starting treatment and I’m still here and still stable. I can’t begin to express the gratitude I feel for the NHS, scientists, the researchers and the extraordinary drugs keeping my cancer “asleep”.

They’ve given me the most precious gift of extra time. I’m celebrating with my wonderful mum who came with me to the hospital, and feels every bit of scan anxiety just as deeply as I do. Seeing her face relax means everything, as did hearing the relief in my daughter Maya’s voice as soon as I called her… followed immediately by her sending me a shopping list for dinner.

We can now look forward to Christmas with the weight lifted and that feels like the best present of all. My love and thoughts with everyone else receiving their results right now. I know exactly how anxiety inducing these days can be and I’m holding you in my heart.

Thank you for all the love and support. I know how fortunate I am and it truly means the world.”
