Soma Sengupta: Raising Awareness, Reducing Suffering, and Moving Closer to Better Treatments During Glioblastoma Awareness Month

Soma Sengupta, Chair and Neurologist-in-Chief at Tufts Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“As May approaches—I think about Glioblastoma Awareness Month:

I remember the warriors we have lost. Each memory is a tribute to who they were and the lives they touched.

I also think of those who continue to fight—patients and families navigating this journey with extraordinary courage.

Glioblastoma is relentless—not only in its biology, but in the toll it takes:

  • The physical side effects of treatment, the cognitive and emotional impact.
  • The very real financial toxicity that weighs on patients and families.
  • At a time when research funding faces uncertainty, our commitment cannot waver.
  • Progress depends on sustained investment, innovation, and advocacy—so we can not only extend survival, but improve quality of life.

I am continually in awe of this community—the resilience, the humanity, and the strength to keep going.

This May, I ask you to act:

  • Learn and share information about glioblastoma
  • Support research and clinical trials
  • Advocate for sustained and equitable funding
  • Recognize and address both treatment-related side effects and financial burden
  • Stand with patients and families—your voice matters

Together, we can raise awareness, reduce suffering, and move closer to better treatments—and ultimately, a cure.”
