Sohaib Nazir: International COMPASS Consortium Sets Sights on Cardio-Oncology Challenges

Sohaib Nazir, Consultant Cardiologist and Clinical Senior Lecturer: Cardio-oncology/Heart Failure/ischaemia and multimodal imaging (CMR/CT/PET) at Royal Brompton Hospital and King’s College London shared a post by Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals on LinkedIn, adding:

“Delighted to be part of the amazing COMPASS Project consortium led by academic lead King’s College London, industry lead GE HealthCare alongside Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals and over 60 other partners.

This €50.5m grant awarded from the European Union Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) and partners will aim to transform clinical cardio-oncology care using innovative disruptive technologies to enhance patient care at the intersection of heart disease and cancer.

It’s been an enormous effort with a fantastic consortium from:

Quoting Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals‘s post:

“Great news for the future of cardio‑oncology care. The new COMPASS consortium, a €50.5 million EU‑funded public‑private partnership under the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI), has officially launched, bringing together more than 60 partners across 25 countries to advance the early detection and management of cardiotoxicity in cancer patients.

As one of the leading academic partners, the Cardio‑Oncology Centre of Excellence at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals will contribute world‑class clinical and scientific expertise to this landmark programme.

Combining EU HORIZON IHI funding and matched industry investment, COMPASS aims to build integrated, AI‑enabled clinical pathways to improve cardiovascular outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer.

Dr Alex Lyon, Director of Royal Brompton’s Cardio‑Oncology Centre of Excellence, said:

This award will transform the health and improve outcomes for cancer patients with heart disease, so frequently caused by their life‑saving cancer treatments. We are delighted our centre is to be one of the leading academic partners in this new research consortium.
