“It was a distinct honor to visit at the Burjeel Cancer Institute in Abu Dhabi, as representative of the IAEA during my first mission to UAE, I engaged in substantive and forward‑looking discussions with the Chair of Radiation Oncology and hospital CMO, Dr. Ibrahim Abu-Gheida. I was also privileged to meet an impressive leadership team, including the visionary CEO, Prof. Prof.Humaid Al-Shamsi MB(IRL),FRCP(Lon),FRCP(Ca),FRCP(Glasgow),FACP(US) (IRL), FRCP(Lon), FRCP(Ca), FRCP(Glasgow), FACP(US).
I was deeply honored to receive a signed copy of Cancer Care in the United Arab Emirates, a significant and timely contribution that includes an important chapter on the state of radiation oncology in the country. These conversations reaffirmed the Institute’s strong commitment to innovation, multidisciplinary excellence, and meaningful global engagement in cancer care.
Looking ahead, this visit opens promising avenues for future collaboration between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and partners in the United Arab Emirates. Potential areas include national and regional projects, training opportunities for fellows across the region, and the exchange of shared experts to strengthen capacity in radiation oncology and cancer care.
I am grateful for the warm hospitality extended throughout the visit and look forward to continued collaboration that supports high‑quality, patient‑centered oncology services in the region.”
