“SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital strengthens its role as an international meeting point for pediatric oncology.
From 12-15 March, the SJD Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona (PCCB) hosted the 10th ESO-SIOPE Masterclass in Pediatric Oncology, bringing together specialists from 20 countries across Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
Organized in collaboration with the European School of Oncology (ESO) and the European Society for Pediatric Oncology (SIOPE), the program focused on the discussion of complex clinical cases and advances in innovative therapies for childhood cancer.
Over three days, participants engaged in interactive tumor boards, presenting real cases and debating treatment strategies with international experts.
The sessions covered key areas of pediatric oncology – including leukaemias, CNS tumors, neuroblastoma, sarcomas, nephrogenic tumors and rare cancers – while also addressing inequalities in access to care and the role of advanced therapies such as immunotherapy and CAR-T.
Beyond the scientific discussions, the program also included workshops on communication with patients and families, palliative care and supportive care, reinforcing the importance of a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to childhood cancer.
This Masterclass is part of the collaboration between SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital and the European School of Oncology, within the ESO Clinical Training Centres program, which recognizes the hospital as one of only six accredited centres in Europe for the Pediatric Fellowship Program – and the only one in Spain.
Through initiatives like this, Sant Joan de Déu continues to strengthen its international commitment to clinical excellence, research and specialized training in pediatric oncology.”
