SIOG – International Society of Geriatric Oncology shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Older adults with cancer are less likely to be offered surgery, and less likely to recover well when they have it. Gaps in assessment, optimization, and coordinated care account for much of that.
SIOG’s Surgical and Perioperative Optimization Collaborative (SPOC) Interest Group works across the full perioperative pathway:
- frailty assessment
- surgical risk stratification,
- prehabilitation,
- shared decision-making,
- recovery of function
- independence after surgery.
The group is chaired by Nicole M Saur, with Desiree Steimer as Co-Chair. It is open to surgeons, anesthesiologists, geriatricians, oncologists, nurses, rehabilitation specialists, dietitians, and researchers in outcomes and implementation science.
Perioperative care now has its own place within SIOG.
If this is where your work sits, consider joining to collaborate with the group.
