First-line treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma in older patients

How are older patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma managed in real-world practice?

This Canadian cohort study shows that patients aged ≥75 were more likely to receive targeted monotherapy and less likely to undergo surgery or participate in clinical trials. When treated with immune checkpoint inhibitor combinations, they did not experience higher toxicity.

These findings support more individualized, patient-centred treatment decisions beyond age alone.
