Survival benefit from evidence-based treatment for rectal cancer among older people – Analysis of SEER-Medicare

How often do older adults with stage III Rectal Cancer receive guideline-based care? And does it change survival?

In this large SEER-Medicare analysis of nearly 4,000 patients, only 25% received all recommended multimodal treatments. Receipt of guideline-based care was associated with significantly improved overall and cancer-specific survival.

Age, comorbidities, income, and geography were linked to lower adherence.

These findings highlight persistent gaps in delivering evidence-based care to older adults.
