Siobhan Freeney: Breast Density Reporting in Women Undergoing Mammograms in Ireland

Siobhan Freeney, Founder of Lobular Ireland, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Women across Ireland await the outcomes of the health watchdog HIQA – Health Information and Quality Authority health technology assessment into Breast Density Reporting for Women who have Mammograms in Ireland.

International evidence abounds in favour of Women having access to their personal Breast Density information. Bridging inequalities in Breast cancer Screening is vital for the huge numbers of Women (over 40%) who have Dense Breasts and for whom standard Mammography does not work equally. International research shows that this data combined with essential, appropriate, supplemental imaging, greatly contributes to improved Breast cancer detection rates and importantly the detection of Breast Cancer at earlier and more treatable stage.

This is about women’s health and saving lives. It is about shared, informed decision making and it’s about providing Women in Ireland with all the known information from their Breast Cancer Screening Mammograms. Women want to be partners in decisions about our own health car.”
