Siobhan Freeney: Why Breast Density Reporting Matters for Women

Siobhan Freeney, Founder of Lobular Ireland, shared a post by HIQA – Health Information and Quality Authority on LinkedIn, adding:

“Ireland Tell Me My Breast Density.

Women are not just passive recipients of our medical care, we are partners in our own health care and we want all available information given to us

In 2021 and 2022 I co-authored consecutive Public Submissions to the National Screening Advisory Committee NSAC ANNUAL CALL calling for Nationwide Standardised Breast Density Reporting for Women who have Breast Cancer Screening Mammograms.

On behalf of Lobular Breast Cancer Ireland we welcome the HIQA – Health Information and Quality Authority Health Technology Assessment. There’s potential for real transformational change and the opportunity to mandate for routine dissemination of personal Breast Density Information Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD.

Patient Advocates across the world together with Breast Cancer Researchers, Radiologists, Clinicians and Scientists have led the way in driving successful ‘Grassroots’ Breast Density Reporting Campaigns.

43% of All Women have Dense Breasts.

In the interest of shared informed decision making – ALL Women should be appropriately notified about their Personal Breast Density Information (as seen on Mammograms).”

Quoting HIQA‘s post:

“We have published the protocol for a health technology assessment of including breast density within the Breast Check screening pathway. This work will support the National Screening Advisory Committee in making a recommendation to the Minister for Health on this topic.
