Simul Parikh, Medical Director of OncoHealth, Medical Director at Lake Huron Medical Center, shared on LinkedIn:
“This ASTRO Annual Meeting, I may have to bring my kiddos.
I’ve done this in the past and this was maybe 3 years ago. The staff was incredible, they offered to make my kid a badge, no one gave us a second look and everyone was very kind to her.
If my daughter was quiet during lectures, she was fine to sit in a corner and play with my phone. And there were a few other services offered. But, this is all getting even better. Medical conferences ‘understood the assignment’ and ASTRO, in my opinion, continues to do an excellent job.
Residents and first year attendings are eligible for a child care stipend – the link for application is in the ASTRO link at the end of the post.
They have contracted with a babysitting company – $32/hr x 4 hours minimum. Probably a little more expensive then Katie next door, but you’re in one of the most expensive cities in the US and these are vetted sitters.

Remember to ask the hotel for a crib before hand, most of them will provide and often set it up for you – we’ve always done this.
There are nursing lounges and even lactation pods!
h/t to Krisha Howell for letting me know about these services.
Have a great Annual Meeting!”
