Silvia Romeo, Policy Officer at European Cancer Organisation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“This week marked my last days at the European Cancer Organisation, and closing this chapter feels both surreal and incredibly meaningful.
For over three years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside the cancer community – patients, advocates, clinicians, colleagues, partners – people who wake up every day determined to make things better. Being part of that mission has shaped me far more than I ever imagined.
Among the many areas of cancer care, prevention has always pulled me in the strongest. Not because the rest matters any less, but because for me this is where science offers something almost magical: the chance to stop illness before it even begins.
Leading the HPV policy campaign at ECO was one of those rare moments where purpose and work collide in the best possible way.
And let’s be honest: HPV is not the easiest topic to champion. Trying to convince people to prevent a sexually transmitted infection in adolescence to avoid cancer decades later? It’s a bold, sensitive, occasionally awkward mission, and I loved every second of that challenge. It reminded me daily why this work matters and contributing to that effort is something I’ll always carry with pride.
I’m leaving with a full heart, grateful for everything I learned, for the trust I was given, and for the people who made this journey unforgettable.
And now…on to the next adventure. Stay tuned.”
