Silvia Romeo, Policy Officer at European Cancer Organisation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Back in Brussels after an inspiring week in Skopje, North Macedonia, where I had the privilege of joining the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Annual Forum for the second time.
This year, I had the honour of chairing the European Cancer Organisation symposium with brilliant colleagues from across the South East Europe region, exploring how we can accelerate momentum to eliminate HPV-related cancers.
Some of my key takeaways:
- We already have the science and the tools: vaccination, modern screening, HPV testing and self-sampling.
- We must extend HPV vaccination to boys in order to achieve elimination. HPV goes beyond gender and it’s about all of us.
- The real challenge is building trust, ensuring equity, and strengthening cross-border collaboration. Plus, and most importantly, strong political will.
- Civil society, clinicians, researchers, and advocates all play a crucial role in pushing this agenda forward.
Every time I join this community, I’m inspired by the energy and commitment. Together, we’re proving that elimination isn’t just a vision, it’s achievable.
Grateful to Tamar Khomasuridze from UNFPA for the great partnership, ECO, and all the speakers who shared their insights.
Today we have the power to do what once seemed impossible: make cervical cancer history.”
