Siddhartha Yadav, Associate Professor of Oncology and Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Mayo Clinic, shared a post on X:
“Our combined analysis of the large CARRIERS and BRIDGES datasets provides more precise estimates of contralateral breast cancer risk among breast cancer survivors carrying germline pathogenic variants (PVs) in ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, CHEK2, and PALB2.
Take-home message: Breast cancer survivors carrying BRCA1, BRCA2, or CHEK2 PVs, as well as ER-negative survivors carrying PALB2 PVs, have at least a twofold increased risk of contralateral breast cancer. In contrast, ATM PV carriers do not have an elevated risk compared to non-carriers.”
