“I was thinking today that I honestly cannot remember the last time there was an important oncology meeting I really wanted to attend and I wasn’t there. I always found a way.
Tomorrow, the World Cancer Congress starts in Hong Kong. This time feels especially meaningful, and missing it feels strange because I am also a candidate for the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Board of Directors.
I would have really loved to be there – to meet UICC members, reconnect with friends and colleagues, meet the other candidates, and have all those conversations that happen around a congress and often matter more than the formal sessions. But this time, I have a very special reason to stay home.
Her name is Daphne. So I’ll be campaigning from home, with my little one-month-old Daphne by my side. To everyone in Hong Kong, I hope you have a wonderful World Cancer Congress.
And to the UICC community – I am sure we’ll have many chances to meet very soon.”
