Shouptik Basu: Building a Low-Cost Peritoneal Oncology Model to Expand Access to Advanced Cancer Care

Shouptik Basu, Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and Research Institute, shared about presenting a low-cost peritoneal oncology model focused on expanding access to evidence-based and innovative cancer care through state-insured treatment approaches:

“Honored to present our low-cost Peritoneal Oncology model, which leverages state-insured funding to deliver treatment for patients with malignancies disseminated across the peritoneal lining.

This model has served as an important foundation for us to implement and adapt similar services within our hospital and teaching institute.

Through this initiative, we have been able to extend evidence-based surgical and intraperitoneal therapies to many patients who were previously considered beyond the scope of curative or meaningful intervention.

Over the past year, we have also established PIPAC (Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy) services in our Peritoneal Oncology program, further strengthening our comprehensive peritoneal surface malignancy treatment capabilities and advancing surgical innovation within our institution.

I am sincerely grateful to my alma mater for the opportunity to present this work at the ABSI Surgical Innovation session in our annual State Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India. It was a privilege to contribute to this academic platform and reconnect with mentors and colleagues who have played a formative role in my journey.

Committed to advancing accessible, affordable, and high-quality peritoneal cancer care.”
