“DigiNerve Surgery SS”: Comprehensive Video-Based Surgical Oncology Course Launched at ASICON, Kolkata
Kolkata, India — Surgical Oncology training in India is among the most challenging academic pathways in medicine, with highly competitive entrance examinations and an exceptionally vast and evolving syllabus. To support aspiring and current surgical oncology trainees in navigating this demanding landscape, Dr. Shouptik Basu, Indian Surgical Oncologist, has launched “DigiNerve Surgery SS”, a comprehensive video-based educational teaching course in Surgical Oncology.
The course was officially reviewed and launched at ASICON, the annual national conference of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), held in Kolkata. The academic preview was attended by surgical trainees and senior faculty from international and across the country, who evaluated the course content during its formal introduction.
DigiNerve Surgery SS has been developed with a clear focus on super-specialty entrance examination preparation while remaining deeply rooted in contemporary clinical practice. Considering the vastness of oncology, the course offers structured, system-wise teaching and integrates:
- Core concepts in Surgical Oncology
- Recent evidence and practice-changing updates
- Content aligned with standard reference textbooks
- Operative videos demonstrating key oncologic procedures
- Concise summaries of landmark trials relevant to surgical decision-making
The course was academically reviewed by several eminent surgeons and faculty members, including Professor P. Ronan O’Connell, one of the most respected figures in global surgical education.
Professor P. Ronan O’Connell, President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and President of the European Surgical Association, is Emeritus Professor of Surgery at University College Dublin, Ireland. He has previously served as Editor of the British Journal of Surgery, Associate Editor of Diseases of the Colon and Rectum, and Editor-in-Chief of the European Surgical Association. He is also the Joint Editor of Bailey and Love’s Short Practice of Surgery for multiple editions, a textbook universally regarded as the definitive reference and “bible” for surgical trainees across the world.
The course was released by Dr. Shouptik Basu, along with his co–chief editors, Professor Dr. Nilay Mandal and Dr. Sunil Shenvi, a noted GI and HPB surgeon, who have also released similar teaching courses in their respective specialities. The launch was further supported by Mr. M. S. Mani, Group President of Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers Pvt. Ltd., highlighting a strong collaboration between academic leadership and medical publishing.
Faculty members and trainees present at ASICON welcomed DigiNerve Surgery SS as a timely and much-needed educational initiative, particularly in view of the expanding scope of oncology, the growing emphasis on evidence-based surgical practice, and the need for structured, high-quality digital learning resources.
With its comprehensive academic framework, operative insights, and examination-oriented approach, DigiNerve Surgery SS represents a significant advancement in Surgical Oncology education and is poised to become a valuable learning platform for future generations of surgical oncologists in India.”
