Shelly Sharma, Senior Breast Imaging Specialist at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“A 77-year-old patient came to us with early breast cancer.
Surgery under general anaesthesia wasn’t an option for her. Normally, that’s where choices start to feel very limited.
But this time, we did something different.
At Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals , New Delhi, we performed North India’s first breast cancer cryoablation, freezing and destroying the tumour without major surgery, under local anaesthesia, and with minimal impact on healthy breast tissue. The thought with me wasn’t the technology or the “first.”
It was the sense of relief knowing she had a safe option when she thought she didn’t. This is why gentler, more personalised approaches to cancer care matter so much.
Not every patient fits into a textbook. And they shouldn’t have to.
If this helps even one patient feel less afraid or less stuck, it’s worth sharing.
And if you’re navigating a similar situation, I’m always open to a conversation.
