Shannoy Fraser: STEMPrep Internship Introduces Student to Pancreatic Cancer Immunology Research

Shannoy Fraser, Student Researcher at Oregon Health & Science University, shared on LinkedIn:

“Two days after my high school graduation, I decided to board a plane to Portland, Oregon to be apart of STEMPrep, an internship at Oregon Health and Science University.

I was placed in an immunology lab focused on pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) and I had no prior knowledge regarding this field.

At first, I struggled to understand the content regarding what I was doing, but eventually, I came around and became independent in some of my assigned tasks. It was truly mind blowing that I was able to give a poster talk and an oral presentation about what I worked on. Aside from that, I got the privilege to do clinical shadowing and be in the OR, which was exciting.

Truly, this experience has taught me so much within the lab and being in a new environment. I met a lot of wonderful people who made my summer memorable and I’m so grateful that I got access to this opportunity.”
