“Big news for Chicago! When cancer treatment requires traveling away from home, lodging should not be the reason someone delays or misses the care they need.
That is why the American Cancer Society’s work to bring Hope Lodge to Chicago matters.
Across the country, American Cancer Society Hope Lodge communities provide free lodging to more than 36,000 cancer patients and caregivers each year, saving them more than $85 million in lodging costs.
Chicago is a major destination for cancer care, serving patients from across Illinois, the Midwest and beyond. But for many families, staying close to treatment is expensive and difficult to manage.
Thanks to generous support from UChicago Medicine, Rush University System for Health and community partners, we are taking an important step toward changing that.
Hope Lodge Chicago will provide no-cost lodging and support for patients and families who need to travel for treatment, helping reduce the financial and logistical strain that too often comes with cancer care.
This is what progress requires: partners coming together to make it easier for people to access the care they need.
I’m grateful for the people and organizations helping bring this vision to life, and for the patients and families this work will support in the years ahead.
