Shane Jacobson։ Fourth of July Reflections on Progress Against Cancer and Shared Responsibility

Shane Jacobson, Chief Executive Officer of the American Cancer Society (ACS) and American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This Fourth of July, I’m thinking about what it means to keep building toward a healthier future for every person in this country.

This year marks 250 years since our nation’s founding. That milestone is a reminder of both how far we’ve come and how much responsibility we still share.

At the American Cancer Society and American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), that responsibility shows up every day in the work to prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering. It shows up in research labs, hospital rooms, community health centers, policy conversations, volunteer efforts and the quiet moments when someone facing cancer needs support and finds it.

Progress against cancer has always depended on people choosing to work together across differences, disciplines and communities. That is still true today.

As we celebrate this holiday, I’m grateful for the people who make that progress possible – teammates, volunteers, researchers, clinicians, advocates, donors, partners, caregivers and families across the country.

There is more work ahead. And there is real reason to keep going.”
