Shane Jacobson: How Impactful Research Powers National and Global Advancements in Cancer Care
Shane Jacobson, Chief Executive Officer of the American Cancer Society, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“This week’s travels took me to Atlanta to meet with the American Cancer Society Discovery team, including our population science experts whose study operations I had the chance to see in action.
I’m proud of the work of this team! The big picture: For more than 70 years, ACS has conducted some of the world’s largest prospective epidemiologic cohort studies to understand risk factors for cancer, as well as progression, quality of life, and survival after a cancer diagnosis. We are also the largest nonprofit funder of cancer research in the U.S. outside of the federal government, funding more than $5 billion in grants since 1946. This is made possible because of generous donors, philanthropic partners, the talents of our research community, and a deep commitment to accelerate new knowledge that can save lives.
Dr. William Dahut, Ashley Yeager, Dr. Ahmedin Jemal, Scott Whalen, Jeshondria McCrary, Kerri Gober, and Dr. Alpa Patel – thank you for a wonderful and educational visit! It was inspiring to learn more about how your impactful research powers national and global advancements in cancer care.”
