Seong Chi, Associate Medical Director at Scientific Advocacy and Professional Societies, AbbVie, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“For Multiple Myeloma Awareness Month, Zeena and I had the privilege of attending the Health, Hope, Hip-Hop Foundation’s 2nd Annual Hip Hope Ball: A Celebration to Ignite Change at The Queen in Wilmington, DE – and we left with full hearts and a renewed sense of purpose.
Founded by the Visionary and Multiple Myeloma Thriver, Oya Gilbert, this evening was a powerful blend of music, community, and conversation. Hosted by the talented Shanelle Gabriel, M. Ed., the program spotlighted community voices alongside the prestigious HHandHH Award presentations.
- Lifetime Advocacy Achievement Award – Maria A. Davis
- Staple of the Streets Awards – Chandra Pitts and Logan Herring
- Recognition of the Real Award – Philly Freeway
The night was capped off by a legendary live performance headlined by Big Daddy Kane – a true masterclass in the culture.
Alongside Oya, we were fortunate to spend time with friends, patient thought leaders, multiple myeloma thrivers, and advocacy superheroes: Thomas Goode and Valarie Traynham, and our close family friends and Delaware community leaders, Andrew Wilson and Mary Nash Wilson, who showed up in powerful support of the event and the mission behind it. Moments like those remind you that the movement is so much bigger than one night.
To Oya Gilbert and the entire Health, Hope, Hip-Hop Foundation team – thank you for creating an experience that moved and challenged us all.
