Sendurai Mani: How Can Strength Alignment Improve Productivity and Team Impact?

Sendurai Mani, Associate Director of Translational Oncology at Legorreta Cancer Center, shared on LinkedIn:

“Strength Multiplies the Impact

Every person has abilities. But the greatest return comes from recognizing your unique strength and investing deeply in it.

Biology offers a useful analogy. Proteins are built from a remarkably small alphabet of amino acids, yet they carry out highly specialized functions. Their power does not come from trying to do everything. It comes from having the right structure for the right role.

People are far more complex and far more capable. We can learn, adapt, and contribute in many ways. But being capable of something is different from being exceptionally good at it.

The important questions are not only, ‘What can I do?’

They are also:

  • What am I especially good at?
  • How can I align my strengths with my team?
  • Where can I create the greatest value?

When I bring someone into a team, I try to understand their natural strengths and help place them where those strengths can have the greatest impact. Some people immediately see their productivity, confidence, and satisfaction rise. Others initially resist; it can be difficult to accept that focusing on one’s strengths is not a limitation. It is a strategy.

The highest return on investment (ROI) in time, energy, and output often comes from aligning talent with opportunity.

Identify what you do exceptionally well. Keep developing it. Put yourself in environments where it matters.

That is how individual potential becomes meaningful collective progress.”
