Samra Turajlić, Director at CRUK Manchester Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Yesterday’s celebration of Nic Jones and the breadth of his contributions to cancer research in the UK and beyond was also a showcase of beautiful science—remarkable in both its simplicity and its impact over the last 50 years. In later years, Nic served as Chief Scientist at Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and was instrumental in major initiatives, including Cancer Grand Challenges.
It was also a story of friendship and love, intertwined with the scientists working in the field, reminding us that these are essential ingredients for success in the pursuit of discovery.
Nic leaves an incredible legacy, particularly in Manchester, through the people, partnerships, and infrastructure he helped build including Manchester Cancer Research Centre in partnership with the The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and The University of Manchester.
I hope that the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute will thrive under my tenure, and I hope to lead with the integrity, dedication and kindness that characterised Nic’s leadership.”
