Salman Fazal: A Privilege to Join HealthTree Connect to Cures Event

Salman Fazal, Hematology Lead at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, shared on LinkedIn:

”It was a privilege to participate in the HealthTree Connect to Cures event in Pittsburgh.

I was inspired by the patients, care partners, advocates, and healthcare professionals who came together for an open discussion about blood cancers, treatment advances, and the questions that matter most to patients and families.

Events like this help patients understand how collaboration between local physicians and academic specialists can improve outcomes and expand access to expert care and the newest treatments.

I emphasized how close collaboration between local oncology teams and academic specialists can ensure timely referral and early planning for transplant and cellular therapy – decisions driven by disease biology and often requiring months of preparation.

The same partnership can help ensure that clinical trials are considered at every important decision point, rather than only as a last resort.

HealthTree Foundation is a patient-founded non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for cancer. ‘Connect to Cures’ is an in-person, patient-centric community event series being held in cities across America.

This event is designed to help blood cancer patients access vital resources and connect with other patients in their community.

They also offer a valuable resource for the blood cancer community through patient education – including webinars, articles, podcasts, and videos – along with opportunities for community connection, coaching, and participation in research through surveys and studies.

Grateful to have shared the panel with Dr. Dhaval Mehta.

Special thanks to Mary Arnett and her team at the HealthTree Foundation for organizing such a thoughtful and well-attended event in Pittsburgh.”
