“This Thanksgiving week, I’m thankful for so many things.
But I’m especially grateful for the amazing people of team SCAN.
It’s often meaningless performative corporate pablum for leaders to thank their teams around the holidays.
But things feel different at SCAN as our people are visibly stepping up to help out members every single day in both expected and unexpected ways.
I’m thinking of our President Karen Schulte and our CFO Michael Plumb who led the charge to cover high-cost drugs with lower copays (and higher costs to our plan) because we observed some of our members struggling to pay for them.
I’m thinking about the teams of people under Aiko Tan, who self-organized to help lower-income seniors when SNAP benefits were at risk (after doing so much to support our members after the Palisades fires).
I’m thinking about Yelena Slavina who went above and beyond to support one of our members through a complicated cancer diagnosis and care journey—after building a relationship with her help with her with some key unrelated medication issues a few months before.
I’m thinking about our peer advocates like Jerry Payne who are SCAN members who use their personal experiences with the health plan to help others navigate their own healthcare experiences.
I’m thinking about IT leaders like Corinne Stroum and Praveenkumar Devarajan for pushing us out of our confort zone and challenging our status quo.
I’m thinking about Ilona Bassin and the talent acquisition team for helping us grow with quality through a major surge.
I’m thinking about Renee Delphin-Rodriguez and Oren Rosenthal for leading the charge in an industry-leading lawsuit on STARS that changed how the whole industry calculates STAR ratings.
I’m thinking about our sales representatives like Alton Smith and broker account executives like Connie Tam, Sarah Endriss, Elsa Haro Rapp, Ruby de la Torre, Tim Yoon, Robin Bartley, and others who work to passionately share the SCAN story with so many people. They live our mission.
I’m thinking of all of our member service representatives and leaders like Andree Lang who wake up every morning to help people who need help.
Some of it is very straightforward.
And some of it is very hard, going against the grain to make things work for people in this challenged, broken healthcare system.
I’m thinking about our teams at myPlace Health, Welcome Health, Inc, Homebase Medical, SCAN Embrace, and Healthcare in Action who go above and beyond to serve complex patients with compassion and preserve their dignity.
It’s a lot of thanks—but at a time like this—there’s so much to go around! Go team SCAN—I’m so thankful and grateful! Happy Thanksgiving!”
