Sachin H. Jain: Can Better Healthcare Delivery Transform Cancer Care?

Sachin H. Jain, President and CEO of SCAN Health Plan, Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine, and Contributor at Forbes, shared on LinkedIn:

“People who know me know that I am a genuine Costco superfan.

So this is a surreal sentence to write:

Costco Wholesale and SCAN are working together to develop jointly branded Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement products.

Anna Wilde Mathews of The Wall Street Journal broke the news today.

Costco has built something exceedingly rare: trust at scale.

Its members believe that if Costco puts its name on something, it has been carefully vetted for quality and value. That trust was earned one decision and one member experience at a time.

That is exactly the kind of trust healthcare desperately needs.

SCAN has spent nearly 50 years serving older adults.

Now, we have an opportunity to pair our deep Medicare expertise with one of the most trusted consumer brands in America and explore whether choosing and using Medicare coverage can become simpler, more intuitive and more connected to people’s everyday lives.

Because of federal regulations, we cannot yet share details about benefits, locations or timing. We will say more as soon as we are permitted.

But I can say this: at a moment when many health plans are retreating from Medicare, SCAN is leaning in with ambition, discipline and a commitment to doing things differently.

I’m enormously grateful to the Costco and SCAN teams who made this possible.

Professionally, this is a major milestone.

Personally, for a longtime Costco superfan, it is just incredibly cool.”
