Sachin H. Jain: “People Make Organizations, Not Organizations People”

Sachin H. Jain, President and CEO, Board Director at SCAN Health Plan, shared on LinkedIn:

“When I was in high school, I used to tell my aunt, Kanti Auntie (Kanti Jain), how badly I wanted to attend a particular college.

She was skeptical and offered a piece of advice I didn’t fully understand at the time:

‘Students make the school. Schools don’t make the student.’

As a wayward teenager, I shrugged off her Yoda-like wisdom.

Years later – after attending a lot of school and working in many organizations – I’m finally beginning to understand what she meant (I can be a slow learner).

The same lesson applies far beyond education. The true value of any organization – schools, companies, even communities – is the people who make it up.

People make organizations. Organizations don’t make people. It’s an easy truth to forget in a world obsessed with brands, rankings, prestige, and logos.

But over time, I’ve come to believe Kanti Auntie was exactly right.”
