Sachin H. Jain, President and CEO, Board Director at SCAN Health Plan, shared on LinkedIn:
“For years, we were told health insurance companies had to hold luxurious sales events for broker partners because our competition holds these events.
These events include retreats and trips at fancy resorts.
Expensive sporting events and sponsorships.
It was accepted as a cost of doing business.
And so we occasionally would hold nice events for our sales and broker partners.
This way of working obscured an important fact:
Every dollar that goes to something extra is a dollar we aren’t spending on our members and patients.
Today, we told our most important broker partners in a town hall that we are skimming down our entertainment budgets.
Olive Garden is not a Michelin Star restaurant.
Simple informational gatherings instead of luxurious retreats.
Blue collar, not white collar.
Our executives fly Southwest, not private.
Times are changing, resources are shrinking, and we need to actually live our values.
When we say we are about the patient and the member, we need to actually really mean it.”
