Ryan Schoenfeld, Chief Executive Officer at The Mark Foundation for Cancer Research, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“We just wrapped up The Mark Foundation for Cancer Research 2026 Scientific Symposium in New York!
This week was a powerful reminder of what happens when you give the right people the space and resources to chase their big ideas.
We started the week with a Scientific Advisory Committee meeting to sharpen our long-term strategy, chaired by Ross Levine and including our amazing advisors Elaine Mardis, Scott Armstrong MD, PhD, E. John Wherry, Catherine Bollard, Daniel Nomura, Johanna Joyce, Sarah-Jane Dawson, and Charles Swanton.
This was followed by a wonderful Emerging Leader Award Dinner and our first-ever ELA Summit. Seeing seven years of ELA awardees-past winners and new recipients-all in one room was a personal highlight for me.
The main Symposium drew over 200 scientists from around the world and included presentations from 20 remarkable grantees. We heard a fantastic keynote address from the incomparable William Kaelin Jr., who shared important insights on the role of cancer genetics in discovering new therapeutics.
We also took a special moment at the Symposium to honor the legacy of Samuel Waxman, his contributions to the field, and our collective excitement looking forward to the vital research that will be supported out of the newly established Samuel Waxman Institute for Aging and Cancer at The Mark Foundation.
Thanks to Jonathan Licht for his heartfelt remarks while introducing Dr. Waxman.
Huge thanks to all who presented: Peter Sorger, Mario Suva, Dimitris Mathios, Kornelia Polyak, Kamila Naxerova, Scott Lowe, William Sellers, Aashish Manglik, Julien Sage, Jennifer McQuade, MD, MS, MA, FASCO, Semir Beyaz, Aaron Ring, E. John Wherry.
To our speakers, grantees, and partners: THANK YOU for the work you do. This week proved that while the challenges cancer research is facing are significant, the talent and resolve in this community are even bigger.”
