Ryan R. Lion, Clinical Fellow in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper he co-authored with colleagues published in JAMA Network Open:
“Excited to share a new paper out in JAMA Network Open led by Margit K. Mikkelsen, MD that I was happy to contribute to as a co-author: ‘The Global Clinical Trial Landscape for Children and Adolescents With Cancer.’
Key takeaway: Clinical trials for children with cancer are underrepresented in LMICs. Strengthening clinical trial infrastructure and equitable/inclusive collaborations in LMICs is essential to improve care and ensure findings are truly generalizable globally.
Reflecting on my work with the SJCARES hospital-based cancer registry, these findings highlight the parallel need for robust registry and data-monitoring infrastructure so that clinical trials in LMICs can be better designed and outcomes reliably tracked.”
