Ryan Haumschild, Vice President of Pharmacy at Emory University and Emory Health Plan, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“This past week, one of the most influential people in my life both personally and professionally was recognized by the University of Florida as a Distinguished Alumnus.
My dad would never tell you this himself, but after more than 50 years of practicing pharmacy, he has dedicated his career to serving patients, advancing the profession, and mentoring others. He has also served on the University of Florida College of Pharmacy Dean’s Advisory Council for many years.
While those accomplishments are remarkable, the recognition that would mean the most to him happened just this past week.
While helping someone move out of an assisted living facility, a resident called from across the room,
“Are you the pharmacy doctor who helped me?”
Several years earlier, as a consultant pharmacist, my dad had spent more than an hour with that resident and his wife reviewing every medication they were taking, answering their questions, and creating a medication plan they could truly understand. It wasn’t part of a busy clinic schedule or tied to a performance metric. He did it because he cared, because he believed every patient deserved to understand their medications, and because he has always lived out the oath he took as a pharmacist.
That encounter reminded me that while awards recognize achievement, the greatest legacy is the impact you leave on the lives of others.
Mark J. Haumschild, congratulations on being recognized by the University of Florida. More importantly, thank you for showing me what it means to lead with humility, compassion, and service. You have been an incredible pharmacist, husband, grandfather, and most importantly my dad.”
