“Warning: this is going to be a long post. But some projects deserve more than a few lines.
It was our absolute pleasure to have a separate session during SIOP2026 in San Antonio dedicated to our SIOP GHN AWA WG Transition of Care project.
The questions have not always had simple answers:
- Who is responsible for transition?
- When should it begin?
- What role should families play?
- How can continuity be maintained where dedicated AYA or survivorship services do not exist?
But that is exactly why this work matters.
A very sincere thanks to every expert, survivor, advocate, nurse, physician, and partner who has contributed their time, experience, and honest opinions. This project belongs to all of you.
Thanks to International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP and the SIOP Global Health Network for standing beside us and supporting this work from the beginning. Special thanks of course, to our dearest Susanne Wollaert and Tessie Laub for all their help and support.
Another special moment was presenting the 2026 SIOP GHN AYA Care Award to Maya Prasad. We are grateful to Frontiers-Medicine and its AYA Oncology specialty section for supporting this award and helping us celebrate outstanding work in AYA oncology.
We still have work ahead. At SIOP2027 in Sydney, we hope to present the final consensus results and share what comes next: moving from recommendations toward implementation in different healthcare settings.
For now, I am sharing a few photos from our session in San Antonio and a small glimpse of the people and discussions behind this global effort.”
