Runcie Chidebe, Executive Director at Project PINK BLUE, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Super excited to be attending our second presentation of the ‘Advanced Breast Cancer Global Decade Report 2015 – 2025’ where Dr. Fatima Cardoso, president of ABC Global Alliance made a presentation of some of the goals from the decade report as summarised below:
Goal 1: Survival.
- 5year median survival for ABC increased from 26% to 33%.
- What we see in clinical trial is not replicated in the real world setting.
Goal 2: Data Collection.
- We do not know the number of people who have metastatic breast cancer.
- New standards for data collection introduced (i.e. EUSOMA and The Lancet).
Goal 3: Quality of Life
- Newer targeted therapies have reduced the need for chemotherapy, contributing to overall quality of life improvement.
- 79% of patients report a negative impact on their emotional and psychological wellbeing.
Goal 9: Access to Care.
Improved access to essential ABC medicines in several countries through inclusion in national formularies.
Clearly, the last ten years have proven that collective action can drive meaningful change in advanced breast cancer care and cancer control.
