Ruiling Yuan: The Ring Lady and the Power of Time in Myeloma Care

Ruiling Yuan, Hematologist/Oncologist at Self Regional Healthcare, Adjunct Assistant Professor at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine and Medical University of South Carolina, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Shared with patient permission.  Some clinic visits are about more than labs and therapy plans.

My relapsed myeloma patient came in for treatment dressed like she was heading on a cruise ,bright spirit, big smile. She told me her husband may now be facing the same diagnosis.

And still she said,

Dr. Yuan, I know he will do good just like me.’

She and her husband celebrate every anniversary with a ring. She now has five rings on each finger. Our beloved ‘Ring Lady.’

Those rings represent time. Time made possible by decades of cancer research, clinical trials, and sustained public investment.

Research is not abstract. It’s more anniversaries. More cruises. More life.

To keep that progress moving, we need long-term, sustained funding increases for cancer research and prevention at the federal level. Advocacy is how we protect and advance this work, especially for patients treated close to home in our community practices.”
