“It was a busy and meaningful Tuesday for me this week.
I’d been looking forward since I arrived to hosting my first Grand Rounds, by way of introducing myself to my Dartmouth Cancer Center community. I had a meaningful conversation with Ed Merrens, Chief Clinical Officer at Dartmouth Health.
We covered a lot of ground, from expansion of clinical trials, to patient access, to research funding, to supporting our clinicians. We talked about what it means to deliver excellent cancer care in a rural setting while fostering an open and collaborative culture. I also learned to navigate the ‘Red Sox or Yankees?’ question very carefully!
One thing I believe strongly:
Cancer care is not political. It’s local and personal. We need to create the best local care possible, build on our research, and promote our science so we can make an even greater national impact. I believe that’s all already here.
Then I headed an hour south for the ribbon cutting for a new linear accelerator at Dartmouth Cancer Center Keene (Cheshire Medical Center).
This new machine means more patients in the Monadnock region can receive advanced radiation treatment close to home. It will expand access, help reduce wait times, and provide greater continuity of care.
