Roupen Odabashian: What Makes a Great Clinical Decision Support Tool?
Roupen Odabashian, Hematology/Oncology Fellow at the Karmanos Cancer Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“What makes a great clinical decision support tool?
For me, it’s gotta be frictionless—no typing required, just listening.
I usually need these tools when I’m in the clinic, face-to-face with a patient.
They might throw a curveball question at me, like, “How will this XYZ supplement affect my meds?” or “What’s my survival outlook without treatment for this specific cancer stage?”
Right now, I’m lugging my laptop into the room, typing away, using one tool for clinical decision support and another as an AI scribe. The perfect tool would be a two-in-one, integrated with the EMR, knowing the patient’s history, and predicting the questions based on their comorbidities.
It would answer in real-time, as the question is being asked. Think Cluely, but for medicine… and a bit more accurate given it should be integrated with EMR and knows patient history.
What are your thoughts? What does your ideal clinical decision support tool look like?”
