Ronald Chen, Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Last year, my son and I shaved our heads at Hope Lodge Kansas City’s annual Shave to Save – an event that raises funds for free overnight lodging for cancer patients and their caregivers traveling to KC for treatments.
Hope Lodge helps patients overcome the financial, physical and emotional challenges of cancer by providing free, comfortable accommodations.
And their annual Shave to Save event is where we show unity and support for those facing cancer, while also raising lifesaving funds for them.
Over 20 community and corporate leaders commit to raising money and shaving their heads as a symbol of unity.
Since 2002, 475 shavees have helped raise $4.5 million for Hope Lodge.
I had the honor of being a shavee last year. This was the first time I had ever participated in a large fundraiser.
Amazingly, my son and I together raised over $85K for Hope Lodge. I was so touched by the bravery and commitment my son showed; hair is pretty important for a high schooler. We were very touched by the generosity of our friends and the community at large.
And this year, we have two shavees from the University of Kansas Health System family – Jack Beal and Dr. Raghu Adiga.
Join us at Shave to Save on Friday, April 17 or donate to this important cause, helping so many families impacted by cancer.”
