Ronald Chen on Work Life Balance as a Radiation Oncologist

Ronald Chen, Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

Here’s how I approach work-life balance as a radiation oncologist.

I follow a simple rule:

When I’m home, I won’t touch work.

In the evenings or on weekends or when I’m traveling, I’m not looking at email.

Over my 17-year career, I’ve learned that it’s really important for me to have a balance where work time is work time, and my time is my time.

This allows me to be more present at work and at home.

We all need our own time to relax and recharge, and it’s okay to not be ‘on’ or working 24/7. This is the same advice I give to my junior faculty.”
