Ronald Chen: We Serve Over 4.5 Million People – And Our Community Is What Drives Us

Ronald Chen, Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“As Roy Jensen said in his annual address, it takes a village in cancer research.

And that’s what The University of Kansas Cancer Center is — a village.

A village who’s dedicated to treating and preventing cancer for all those in our area.

Our community is what drives us.

We serve over 4.5 million in the state of Kansas and eastern Missouri.
Which covers over 90,000 square miles and over 26,000 new cancer diagnoses. We are responsible for over 1/3 of those cases every year.

How do we support this large of a region?

By focusing on our community outreach and engagement efforts. I’m passionate that everyone should have access to cancer care, which is why I help lead our outreach efforts.

Here are just some of the ways we’re caring for the community:

  •  Researching the top cancers in our area
  •  Analyzing the outcomes in rural communities vs. cities
  •  Offering free cancer screenings
  •  Discovering cutting-edge solutions to better serve individuals

I’m dedicated to expanding access to patients and working with the The University of Kansas Cancer Center to make a difference in our community.”
