Ronald Chen, Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“There are many ways to make an impact in the fight against cancer this Giving Tuesday.
With research grants and nonprofit funding at risk, we rely on personal donations more and more for the important work that’s being done.
If you’re looking to give back and be a part of making an impact to defeat cancer, here are some intuitions and nonprofits that I have personally seen make a difference.
The Department of Radiation Oncology at The University of Kansas Cancer Center:
We are nationally recognized for leading the way with research and clinical trials that aim to improve cancer treatments, increase cure rates, decrease treatment-related side effects and improve quality of life. You’re welcome to donate here.
Radiation Oncology Institute (ROI) – The ASTRO Foundation:
This is the only organization dedicated to raising funds for radiation oncology research. Radiation continues to improve because of the research that’s being done here. It’s improving the technology, accuracy and our understanding of how radiation works to not only cure many cancers but to effectively treat other conditions like arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), arthritis and even seizures. You’re welcome to donate here.
Gilda’s Club KC:
This is an incredible organization that provides free services to cancer patients and families in the Kansas City area. They’re providing support, education and community to anyone impacted by cancer at no cost. You’re welcome to donate here.
The work being done in these groups is transforming cancer care and supporting patients every step of the way.
Now, more than ever, these groups need your financial support so they can continue their amazing work.”
