“Chinese health authorities approved more novel cancer drugs than the U.S. in the last several years due to investments in China’s biotechnology industry which are enhancing its competitiveness globally. Between 2020 and 2025, China’s National Medical Products Administration cleared 94 novel oncology drugs for sale compared with 87 endorsed by the FDA.
China ended 2025 with almost three times as many cancer drug approvals as the U.S. that year, according to the study published in Health Affairs. However, the FDA completed its reviews a median of 182 days faster and granted approvals a median of 164 days earlier than the NMPA.
The U.S. government must continue to invest in innovation … it’s a matter of national security and economic vitality … and it saves lives.”
